Call for Submissions: Zines 2020

Call for Submissions: Zines 2020

Have a good money story? A scary money story? A funny money story?

For 2020, the team at She Spends has committed to creating a series of three zines that illustrate our recommended process for getting your finances in order. Included with this tactical advice, we’re looking to spotlight creative work from our community - essays, artwork, poems, etc. If you have something to say, we want to hear it.

Our three zines tackle the following topics:

Zine 1: Lose the Debt

Debt is hard. It's ugly and demoralizing and sometimes entirely outside of our control. If you had to describe your experience with debt, what was it like? How did you feel?

If you have had an experience with debt that has made a lasting impression on how you view money, we'd love to hear from you.

Some potential topics to cover:

- Student Loans

- Medical Debt

- Credit Card Debt

- Wedding Debt

- Paying off your debt

- Feelings around debt

- Family dynamics and debt

Zine 2: Save & Invest

Making career moves, setting up that emergency fund and investing what's left over. Phew. How have you optimized your savings? What have you learned to make the most of the money that comes through your door?

Some potential topics to cover:

- How it feels to be you in the workplace

- Negotiation tales

- Unionizing

- Changing jobs

- Starting a company

- Poverty and Making Ends Meet

- Saving strategies that worked for you

- Saving strategies that failed for you

- Relationships and money

- Financial security

- Investing

Zine 3: Give Back

We don't make, spend and save money in a vacuum. Some would say... we live in a society. That means we need to care how we save, spend and give back our money to our community. How has living in a capitalist system impacted the way you think about giving your time or money?

Some potential topics to cover:

- Charity vs. systemic change

- Non-profits

- Starting a movement

- Community building

- Looking out for each other

- Stepping up in situations of injustice

- Beyond voting, what can we do?

If any of these topics speaks to you please consider submitting! If accepted, you’ll receive a free copy of whatever zine you’re published in.

We want these zines to be an open, safe space for community members to publish their own money journeys in order to self-reflect while learning from others’ experiences.

If you choose to submit your piece anonymously, we promise to not share your name or any identifying information (beyond what you provide within your work) anywhere.
